日本の代表的な川魚、鮎です。

One of the most well known of river fish in Japan – the ayu (sweetfish).
(the photo is of one of the most popular ways to prepare it – salted and grilled)

資源保護のため、11~5月は禁漁となっているため、獲れるのは6~10月まで。その中でも7月の若あゆは、骨までやわらかく、美味とされています。
To preserve its numbers, there’s a fishing ban on ayu from November to May, making the delicacy only available during the months of June to October. The ‘young ayu’ of July is said to be the best with its tender bones.

私も大好きで毎年頂きます。
Another one of my favourites and I make it a point to go out for some every year.
